We were in Darwin for 3 nights and it was the weekend. It is a very nice city, but we didn't take any photos when we were there. The night we arrived there was an open-air concert along the esplanade. That was quite good. One of the bands playing was really good, with some traditional aboriginal influence to their style. We spent some time in Darwin updating the internet and collecting and writing emails and of course, eating cake and drinking coffee. As we left Darwin, we drove south to Litchfield National Park via Berry Springs. We stayed near Berry Springs overnight and went swimming in the morning. We took our snorkelling gear for some underwater photos. There was not a lot of fish, etc. to see under the surface, but I saw a mermaid (photo below). |
Von Kakadu ging es nach Darwin wo wir uns zur Abwechslung wieder jeden Tag duschen können anstatt schwimmen zu gehen. Gerade rechtzeitig zum Darwin Festival haben ein paar aboriginal Bands ihr Können zum Besten gegeben. Aus irgendeinem Grund machen wir in Städten nicht sehr viele Fotos. Nach ein paar Tagen in der Zivilisation haben wir die Thermalquellen in Berry Springs genossen. Es ist einfach schön in warmen Wasser zu baden und mit Taucherbrille kann man sich auch die Unterwasserwelt anschauen. Karl war anscheinend weniger an den nicht sehr zahlreich vorhandenen Fischen interessiert mit der Unterwasserkamera. Einer der Fische hat wohl eines meiner Muttermale mit seinem Frühstück verwechselt und kräftig zugebissen. |

The next stop was Litchfield National Park. For those who like waterfalls and swimming holes, this is the place for you. It is a small national park with several very good waterfalls and swimming plunge pools. It is a very popular spot for tourists and for Darwin weekenders. We were lucky to be there during the week, so the there was still space at the swimming holes. As the sign at one swimming hole noted - it can get very crowded. There were some beautiful swimming holes and they are all fairly close together. You can feasibly do the whole park in a day - but we spent 3 days there. We followed some north and south 4WD access roads in and out of the park, but it is also accessible with standard vehicles from the western side. |
Litchfield National Park ist ein im Vergleich zu Kakadu kleiner Nationalpark aber dafür mit Wasserfällen, die das ganze Jahr nicht austrocknen. Ohne Krokodile haben wir natürlich das Wasser genossen. Beim Schwimmen muss man jedoch auf im Wasser verborgene Felsen oder Baumstämme aufpassen. Ich habe mir ein paar blaue Flecken geholt. Auch wenn unsere Fotos sehr idyllisch erscheinen und keine Touristen zeigen, sie sind teilweise in Massen vorhanden. Um niemanden zu enttäuschen wurde dieses nette Schild aufgehängt. Buley ist ein flacher Wasserfall, wo sich das Wasser alle paar Meter in einer Felsaushöhlung sammelt und zum Baden einlädt. 'Wenn der Parkplatz voll ist, dann ist Buley von Menschen überströmt - bitte später zurückkommen.' |

The southern most camping spot was along the southern access road. It is a 4WD track so it is not as busy as the other places in the park. The toilets were very basic and no showers. But there was some beautiful plunge pools at the waterfalls. I can't show you any photos of the pools because we forgot to take our swimmers and this is a family web-site. But poster size photos are available at the right price ! |
Der grösste Teil von Litchfield Nationalpark ist über eine Asphaltstrasse erreichbar. Wir haben den Nationalpark auf der weniger befahrenen Allradstrecke im Süden verlassen. Die Wasserfälle auf dieser Strecke sind wunderschön. Manchmal trifft man ein paar Leute aber ansonsten kann man die Schwimmsachen trocken lassen. Beim Campingplatz hatten wir eine besonders gut belüftete Toilette mit toller Aussicht. |
