The next destination was Kings Canyon. We spent the morning visiting some sites around Uluru and then drove on to Kings Canyon in the afternoon. We arrived just in time to see the sunset. We were the only car there - not as many tourists as Uluru ! We camped at the Kings Canyon Resort, which was a nice location with refreshing swimming pool. But the personnel at the Resort reception are terrible. We found them rude and they had no idea about the surrounding walks 5km away, which is the only reason people go there. Although the camping area and pool were nice, we would stay at Kings Creek Station next time even though it is 35 km away from the main walking tracks through the Kings Canyon. That said, the King Canyon Gorge walk was breath-taking. Indescribable cliffs and gorges in the red, majestic rock. You just cannot describe it with words. We walked down via the spectacular gorge lookouts to the Garden of Eden, a waterhole in one of the gorges. It was fantastic. Anyone coming to Central Australia should visit Kings Canyon - but stay at Kings Creek Station ! The photos speak for themselves. |
Von Uluru geht es weiter nach Kings Canyon. Diesmal auf Asphaltstrasse aber doch immerhin weitere 240 einsame Kilometer zu fahren. Gerade rechtzeitig zum Sonnenuntergang sind wir in Kings Canyon. In den Canyon selber wandern wir morgen. Es ist wirklich unglaublich, aber auch hier mitten im Nirgendwo gibt es im Kings Canyon Resort Grasflächen zum Zelten. Viel Auswahl zum Übernachten gibt es nicht. Entweder man bleibt im Resort das mit Swimmingpool, Camperküche, Restaurant und Geschäft ausgestattet ist, oder 30 Kilometer weiter in einem Campingplatz mit Tankstelle Kiosk. Bei dieser Hitze ist ein Swimmingpool, vor allem weit weg vom Meer nicht zu verachten. Das Personal an der Rezeption strahlt von Unwissenheit und laden eher dazu ein wieder zu gehen - das erlebt man in Australien eher selten. Wie auch immer haben wir den Swimmingpool genossen nachdem wir den atemberaubenden Kings Canyon durchwandert haben. Mit den abwechselnden Felsformationen, der Schlucht an und für sich und dann noch eine 'Garten von Eden' Schlucht die mit grünen Bäumen und einem Wasserloch belohnt ist Kings Canyon fast beeindruckender als Uluru. |

Down at the Garden of Eden is a waterhole - an Oasis in the middle of the desert gorge. Aborigines know where these waterholes are and used them for survival. In the last 120 years they have also been discovered by Europeans and are now hoarded with a steady flow of tourists. March is still a relatively quite time to visit, so we had a few tranquil moments between the streams of other people doing the walk. Other great views of the rocky valleys walking out of the main gorge are shown below. |
Die Felsen im Kings Canyon verwittern und bilden Türmchen. Interessanterweise verwittert der Fels in einem Nord-Süd und Ost-West Raster. Von der Vogelperspektive betrachtet kann man diesen Raster sehen. Der Grund für diesen Raster ist unbekannt. Glücklicherweise können wir Panorama Fotos machen. Es ist schwierig in Fotos auch nur einen Teil der beeindruckenden und faszinierenden Schönheit wiederzugeben, die man auf sich wirken lassen und selber erleben muss. |
